[Text as submitted by architect] This house is designed for a small family who wanted a mix of traditional and modern aesthetics for their home. The client wished for a home that feels warm and connected to the vernacular style of architecture yet modern in its outlook, while also being open, functional, and suited to today’s way of living. The design brings these ideas together, creating a comfortable and welcoming space with both timeless character and a modern touch.

The planning follows a grid arrangement ensuring a seamless flow of spaces while maintaining a connection between indoor and outdoor areas. The living and dining spaces are designed in an open manner, seamlessly connecting to an outer courtyard in the back side. The double-height volume above the dining space allows natural light to filter in through a skylight, creating a dynamic interplay of light and wind within the home.

The house showcases a harmonious balance of materials and textures, with exterior stone cladding adding a natural and earthy character which also aligns to the colour tones of the coconut tree trunks/trees which was conserved during the planning. The interplay of brick jaali, wooden pillars, terracotta jallies and wooden louvered windows not only enhances the facade but also creates a rhythmic play of light and shadow.

Stone masonry on the exterior offers a raw, natural appeal, reinforcing the connection to nature. Louvered windows enhance the house’s aesthetics while allowing controlled ventilation and light diffusion. The residence is not just a living space but an experience where architecture, nature and tradition come together effortlessly.
