[Text as submitted by architect] OBY house is located on a narrow and long site, the former housing estate of Sammakorn Village, aged more than 40 years. The land plot connects two parallel alleys. Moreover, there are two original one-story houses belonging to the owner’s family.

The original house space is appropriate for a small family, which requires more space when there’s more people. The family decided to demolish and rebuild the new house, to merge both existing houses to be one, and turn into a narrow space concept of OBY house.

“Conceal to Review” is the gist of the design. OBY’s overall image is a solid white box, having circular ventilation blocks as a facade of the opening area. The idea of form and design components is shaped by surroundings. The first priority of the design is to maximize space and facilities in a two-story house. Then, the design of this house is aware of sight disruption from nearby two-story neighbouring houses and the denseness of the surrounding building. In consequence, “Conceal outer disturbances to reveal good inside space” will be applied to the whole design.

This idea will enhance privacy, ventilation and natural light through the space without heat issue, with two small green courts where families can spend time together for the whole day.
