[Text as submitted by architect] Like any bustling city, the demands of everyday life often blur the boundaries between work and home. In the heart of Ahmedabad, Techstyle emerges as a reframed idea of a workspace. A recent project led by architect Vaissnavi Shukl exemplifies this shift, offering a multi-purpose space. This is no ordinary office; it’s a cheerful, dynamic space that swings effortlessly between professional focus and relaxed leisure. Techstyle challenges the conventional, replacing stiff, buttoned-up office vibes with a fun, tactile, and colorful design. Designed for a young couple -with one specializing in tech policy and the other practicing law; despite being a compact space, it is envisioned as a workspace that not only catered to their professional needs but also reflected their vibrant personalities.
“The design journey began with the creation of a color and material palette, which served as the foundation for the entire project”, explains Vaissnavi. Rather than adhering to a rigid, predefined design language, the team allowed the design to emerge organically through iterative experimentation.
Walking through the entrance feels like stepping into a cozy personal retreat. The Kota stone pathway with scattered pebbles greets you, easing into patterned Bharat Floorings tiles, and then back to a smooth Kota floor, all bathed in natural light pouring through the windows. The consistent tonal quality of the flooring ensures a smooth, subtle transition without visual surprises. As one enters, the foyer creates a moment of anticipation, drawing you deeper into the seating area. The framed dark teak & rattan wooden porous partitions holding pivot windows, immediately catches your attention, providing a perfect balance of privacy and openness. They create subtle boundaries but also connect the spaces, making the office feel adaptable to whatever the day demands.
Amidst all this spatial drama, a striking feature of the space is the bold use of color. The vivid teal ceiling is a standout feature, adding a touch of character to the office. It’s an unexpected choice for an office, but that’s what makes it work so well. The ceiling pulls the entire design together, giving the space a cohesive, playful energy that says, “Yes, you can work here—but you can have fun, too!” The teal is calming, and it’s beautifully complemented by warm wood tones and mustard-upholstered accents.
