Excerpt: Compact House in Krnov, designed by Atelier 38, is an ascetic house fulfilling the desired building program with a price as low as possible. The interior of the house is characterised by the dialogue between wood and monochromatic surfaces. Public spaces, walled with brick blocks, are located on the first floor with a view of the garden.
Project Description
[Text as submitted by architect] A borderlands from both the city and a state, a working-class colony of former loam mining company. Inconsistent urban development, chaos, lots of space and vegetation, views and a stream.



Compact, ascetic house fulfilling the desired building program with a price as low as possible. A solid point in a large land.



Dialouge between wood and monochromatic surfaces in the interior. Public spaces are located on the first floor with a view of the garden. The bedroom area on the second floor, divisible into two to four spaces, is oriented to the views to the west and east.



The house is walled with brick blocks, the ceilings are panelled. Heating is provided by underfloor heating with a ground-water heat pump. The house was nominated for the Czech Architecture Award 2018 and received an honorable mention in the Building of the Moravian-Silesian Region 2017.
