About Award

Defining the Future of Architectural Discourse

The UnIADA ’26 (International Architecture Dissertation Awards) returns to honour the scholarly rigour and theoretical depth that underpin the design world. While structures shape our physical reality, it is the written research and profound inquiry that shape the structures. Presented by UNI, this annual programme invites the global academic community to spotlight dissertations that challenge conventional thinking, document urban evolution, and propose new paradigms for the built environment.

Mission Statement

The core objective of UnIADA ’26 is to bridge the gap between academic research and professional practice. We seek to validate and publicize the work of emerging scholars who have demonstrated excellence in critical thinking. Whether investigating historical contexts, sustainable technologies, or social urban dynamics, UnIADA recognises that the most impactful designs often begin as a thesis on a page.

Eligibility & Timeline

Who Can Apply: This category is dedicated to Bachelor’s and Master’s students globally in the fields of Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape, Urban Planning, and allied disciplines.

Eligible Projects: We are accepting research papers and dissertations completed, submitted, or published between May 2024 and June 2026.

Submission Scope

Research Focus:

Submissions must prioritize scholarly research and critical analysis. We seek work that offers novel theoretical perspectives on architecture and the built environment. Encouraged topics include, but are not limited to, urban sociology, advanced sustainability, computational theory, heritage conservation, and cultural anthropology in design.

Exclusions (Important):

Projects that are primarily design-centric—such as graduation building proposals, illustrative masterplans, or standard architectural designs without a dominant research component—are not eligible for this category. If your project is a design thesis, please submit it to UnIATA ’26.

Format:

All dissertations must be compiled and submitted digitally as PDFs via the UNI Publication Feature. This tool allows you to present your text, data, and diagrams as a cohesive digital book.

Evaluation Framework

Our jury panel will adjudicate submissions based on four key metrics:

Theoretical Innovation:

Does the dissertation challenge existing paradigms or introduce a distinct, original perspective to the architectural discourse?

Methodological Depth:

Is the research comprehensive? We look for rigorous investigation, whether through case studies, data analysis, or historical inquiry.

Relevance & Impact:

What contribution does this research make to the profession? We evaluate the potential of the work to influence future design practices, policies, or academic theory.

Articulation & Clarity:

How effectively are complex arguments constructed? The submission should demonstrate high standards of academic writing and logical progression.

Prizes: $1000
