Carla Bechelli
She graduated as an architect from the UBA with honors. Her university projects were exhibited at the Montreal Architecture Congress in Canada in 1989, at the Venice Architecture Biennale in Italy in 1991, and at the Architecture Pavilion at Expoamérica in 1992, Argentina.
After developing an intense professional activity in the retail area, managing projects in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, he established his own studio in 2003, developing to date projects of different scales and programs, in housing, hotels, offices, commerce, private neighborhoods, in which he intervenes from the feasibility study, the design of the real estate product with multidisciplinary teams, the development of all stages of the project (from the preliminary project to the interior design), the direction of the work and the management.
With more than 580,000 m2 of covered space planned, and having worked on projects in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Mexico, the firm was commissioned in 2005 by New York-based Rafael Viñoly Architects to develop the final phase of the Fortabat Museum project (2005), the development of the Acqua project in Punta del Este, Uruguay (2006-2008), the Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo, Uruguay (2006-2009), and the winning project in the international public competition for the presentation of private initiatives by the Government of Uruguay for the development of the Masterplan for Artigas Station and areas surrounding the port in Montevideo (2010).
In 2011, the studio was awarded the ARQ 2011 AWARDS Mention for its SAN ISIDRO PLAZA HOTEL project (built in 2008-2009), corresponding to the best works built in the last five years throughout the country, region by region. In recent years, it has won several international awards, and has been invited to exhibit at the International Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy in 2016, 25 years after its first exhibition there, demonstrating a path of professional excellence and passion for design.
The Studio stands out for providing a personalized and “tailored” service for each project and each client, studying in detail the needs, the way of working and the expectations, merging all this with a contemporary architecture that seeks rigor and excellence in architectural work.
Practice Ideology
Carla Bechelli Arquitectos is an award-winning firm established in 2003. It is based in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with projects worldwide. The firm is dedicated to the design of a wide variety of architectural works that address different programs and scales: from small, uniquely designed boutique hotels, to large, multi-family housing, office complexes, and commercial developments.
The firm’s main objective is to offer differential architectonic proposals where design is a fundamental premise. Projects are characterized by a modern aesthetic, and careful work with light and space, searching to achieve unprecedented indoor and outdoor spatiality, functional rigor, and attention to detail. All projects are conceived as new opportunities for reflecting on ways of making architecture and analysing new typologies, exploring the relationship with the environment and a reading of the ever-changing context surrounding architectural production.
