Rajesh Renganathan
Rajesh’s academic research on patterns in nature and their underlying presence in the man-made world continues to inform his design thinking today. His practice lays particular emphasis on thermal comfort as a driving force that shapes architecture. At a broader level, Rajesh is also interested in dynamic shifting relations of nature-culture, mediated through design. Rajesh studied architecture at CEPT, Ahmedabad, and UPenn, Philadelphia. He set up an independent architectural practice in 1994, based in Bangalore city.
Iype Chacko
Iype studied architecture at CEPT, Ahmedabad. He worked in Dubai with Brewer, Smith & Brewer, and at dxb-LAB. His interests lie in appropriate methodology and details that permit a restrained use of materials to achieve more complete design solutions. He has been involved in lectures, reviews, and workshops at USD Mysore, NIT Trichy, KRVIA Mumbai, RV College Bangalore, and SAP Chennai.
Practice Ideology
Flying Elephant Studio is an architecture design studio based in Bangalore, India. The studio seeks to choreograph evocative, layered experiences through architecture while addressing the pragmatic needs of program, site, and locale. Their approach combines bottom-up and top-down design strategies, working in parallel from detail to whole and vice versa. Aspects of materiality and construction play a significant role in expressing the studio’s architectural sensibility. A thematic interest underlying their projects fosters intimate engagement with nature, while also promoting a sense of urbanity and community. Flying Elephant Studio brings fresh, inventive, and sensitive perspectives to shaping the environment, seamlessly blending architecture, urbanism, landscape, and infrastructure design.
