Practice Ideology

Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture is an internationally acclaimed practice led by Lebanese-born architect Lina Ghotmeh, renowned for her award-winning, sustainable, and historically grounded designs. Raised in Beirut, Ghotmeh fuses traditional craftsmanship with innovation, shaping an architectural approach that is forward-thinking, ecological, and inclusive.

Her philosophy, “Archaeology of the Future,” cultivates a deep dialogue between history, nature, and materials. Among her notable works are Stone Garden in Beirut (Dezeen Award, 2021), the 22nd Serpentine Pavilion (2023) in London, Ateliers Hermès—France’s first low-carbon, energy-positive building—and the Estonian National Museum (Grand Prix Afex, 2016).

The studio has also been selected to redesign the Western Range galleries at the British Museum and to create Qatar’s permanent pavilion at the heart of the Giardini, La Biennale di Venezia. Ghotmeh is also the designer of the Olga de Amaral exhibition at both the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris and ICA Miami.

Alongside her practice, Ghotmeh has held academic positions at Yale, the University of Toronto, and Harvard GSD. Her work has been recognized with prestigious honors, including the 2023 Great Arab Minds Award, the 2020 Schelling Architecture Award, and the Prix Dejean from the French Académie d’Architecture (2016).

A frequent speaker at global conferences, Ghotmeh’s work ranges from intimate objects to major cultural landmarks, continually pushing the boundaries of architecture through a humanist and future-oriented lens.
