Practice Ideology

Nomad Studio, an internationally recognized creative workshop devoted to inventive, site-specific projects, was founded in 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana, by Laura Santín (Spain) and William E. Roberts (USA). Their work examines the relationship between landscape and art and how it affects the environment and society.

The studio officially relocated to New York City in 2012, where it remained until 2020. Since 2021, the studio has adopted a nomadic culture.

Rather than merely a name, Nomad is a philosophy of life and itinerant practice that they have employed to complete significant projects worldwide for more than a decade. Some of their recent ephemeral installations include Green Varnish and Green Air at the Saint Louis Museum of Contemporary Art (Missouri, USA), and Tree of Knowledge at Villa Erba on the shores of Lake Como, Italy.

Specialists In Fusing Art And Landscape: With a focus on landscape architecture, art, and creative product design, their practice is conceived as an internationally recognized creative workshop.

The studio explores the intersection between art and landscape, aiming to create deep emotional connections with the environment. Based on a thorough knowledge of the connection between culture and land, Nomad creates experiences that motivate transformation and create enduring ties between individuals and their environment.

In addition, they combine a poetic vision with strong technical expertise, merging systematic analysis with intuitive design. This method, which is based on a deep understanding of the landscape, motivates them to develop creative, site-specific projects that can spark discussions about social and environmental justice and arouse feelings that motivate action.

Landscape architects William Roberts (USA, 1974) and Laura Santín (Spain, 1976) have collaborated as Nomad since 2009. Every project is a chance for them to deepen their understanding of our role within natural systems and inspire transformation through design and art.

Because Nomad has technical offices in both the US and Europe, its work is a mix of local knowledge and an international perspective. This makes the studio truly “internationally local.” Nomad Studio Landscape Architecture PLLC is CLARB certified and professionally registered in the states of Louisiana (LA), Texas (TX), and New York (NY).
