Xiao Lei҅
Xiao Lei҅, an architect & interior designer is the co – founder of TEAM_BLDG.
In 2012, Xiao Lei and Wang Jin co-founded TEAM_BLDG. Through years of design practice, Xiao focuses on the low-tech strategy of construction and local traditional culture, seeking spatial responses to urban and rural problems in natural and cultural environments. Xiao has committed many projects to restore, reuse and repurpose old buildings, through which he kept exploring how to use both modern and traditional technologies to reinterpret spatially the old environment, also in a spiritual sense. In addition to visual experience, atmosphere, temperature, touch and spiritual resonance are the deep beauty that his works pursue. Xiao’s works were awarded and shortlisted in multiple international awards, e.g., Best Display Architecture of the World Architecture Festival, Future Architecture Award of British Architectural Review, A ‘Design of Italy. He has been reported by many professional media such as DETAIL, domus, Wallpaper*, Dezeen, ArchDaily, etc.
Wang Jin
Wang Jin is an interior designer and the co – founder of TEAM_BLDG.
In 2012, Wang Jin and Xiao Lei co-founded TEAM_BLDG. Through years of design practice, Wang focuses on the creation of atmospheric space with local materials, and the expression of proper scale with simpler forms. Her works have been awarded and shortlisted in many international awards such as The American Master Architect Award, the German Iconic Design Award and so on. She has been reported by many professional media such as The Architectural Review, IDEAT, ELLE DECORATION and so on. In addition to her design practice, Wang is also active in the field of design research and criticism; She has written special reports for magazines such as ELLEMEN and AD as well as new media; Precedently she also worked as a reporter for Art and Design and 21st Century Business Herald.
Shigeno Yuji
Shigeno Yuji is the Design director of TEAM_BLDG, and Class A Registered architect in Japan.
Shigeno Yuji has a diverse professional background in design and extensive knowledge covering the whole stage from design to construction. Shigeno holds A Master’s degree in Architecture from Osaka University of the Arts and has worked as an architect at Hiromitsu Iwamoto Institute of Architecture and A-Asterisk. His work has been awarded and shortlisted in several international awards, Best Architecture in Show at the World Architecture Festival, Blueprint Best Architectural Renovation Project, for example. Shigeno has been reported in many professional media such as domus, Dezeen, ArchDaily, gooood, POSITION.
Practice Ideology
TEAM_BLDG was founded in 2012, they work with architecture, interior, landscape and product. The two founders of the studio consider that the word “BLDG” is a verb rather than the meaning of architecture, which should be the process of constructing, and the finished design is just a start of architects’ work. Relative to any concept or style, they are more focusing on the “atmosphere” of building and space, interior and exterior for people. In 2023, TEAM_BLDG Japan was founded in Tokyo by the 3 partners.
Since its inception, TEAM BLDG has been working with designers and artists from multiple areas and Co-creating pieces like furniture, lamps, signs, installations etc. in a number of completed projects. Meanwhile, TEAM BLDG has been cooperating with master architects like Takaharu Tezuka, Kazunari Sakamoto, Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa, and Mitsuru Senda in architectural design, which enables us to accelerate the learning and researching on different design methods and logic.
