Pavel Buryška
Pavel Buryška (1984, Ostrava) is an authorized architect working in the field of urbanism, art, and design. He studied architecture and spatial planning at the Brno Technical University. In 2011, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague with a diploma project dealing with the integration of the Vltava River into the organism of the city of Prague. In 2008, he was a member of the team of the Dutch office Neutelings Riedijk Architects. From 2009 to 2011, he worked on research projects within the Prague office of Jiran Kohout Architects/Center for Housing Quality.
In 2011, he founded the XTOPIX studio together with Barbora Buryšková. During his own practice, he won numerous awards in architectural and urban planning competitions, the most famous of which include, for example, the new cultural space in Planá KINONEKINO. Buryška has long been trying to connect prominent artistic personalities, architects, and various institutions—the community center in Prague’s Prosek recently implemented mural art by artist Michal Škapa as one of the first projects as part of the Art for the City program of the Prague City Gallery.
Practice Ideology
XTOPIX studio was founded in 2011 by Pavel and Barbora Buryška. Their practice is rooted in a belief that architecture should weave together the built environment, public space, art, and design—values they strive to cultivate across all their projects. XTOPIX engages in a diverse range of commissions, spanning various scales: from house renovations and the transformation of brownfield sites into cultural venues to the design of new educational buildings such as schools and kindergartens, as well as large-scale urban planning and the revitalization of historic town squares and public spaces within heritage zones. The studio embraces a contextual approach grounded in local knowledge, relationships, and the unique story of each place. Creative dialogue—with both the site and collaborators—is at the heart of their process. Long committed to interdisciplinary collaboration, XTOPIX actively connects with leading artists, architects, and cultural institutions.
The studio currently consists of a team of ten architects and building engineers.
