Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] The House as a container of knowledge finds its inspiration in the rich symbology and atmosphere of the libraries represented in the painting “Saint Jerome in his study.” The owner, an avid reader, expressed her desire for the house to be a haven for books, making it a space where architecture is embraced by books.

The project is organized around two volumes, the circular one intended for the study and the rectangular one intended for the home. The volumetry is the result of an exostructure in the form of a homogeneous and regular wooden grid. This structure supports the roof, the mezzanine and gives shape to the façade, serving inside as a place for use as libraries. This small tower home seeks to be a refuge and give shelter to its user in the warmth of reading.

The construction system explores the logic of prefabrication. The idea of assembly is an inherent part of this home. The house is light, it weighs the same as a car. It is able to be assembled very quickly through layers that are added like coats on top of each other. It is completely dry assembled, which allows all its parts to be assembled and disassembled when necessary. The final termination is through panels from the refrigeration industry to provide optimal thermal insulation.

All its facilities run freely like veins through easily accessible cabinets along the walls of the libraries. The garden presents an edible landscape incorporated into the native vegetation. The natural pool (filtered by vegetation) will accompany this system that will set the rhythm of the seasons, attract insects, and generate a new ecosystem for enjoyment in harmony with nature.
