Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] A flagship store of the Relay bookshop opened in Shanghai Hongqiao Airport’s T2 terminal in China. Themed as a forest-like bookstore that has suddenly appeared in the airport, the abundant wood used as an eye-catching element creates a contrast with the conventional airport enabling the store to stand out. Simultaneously, a warm and inviting impression is offered as it attracts people unconsciously into the store.

Inside, an array of fixtures are installed between random wooden columns and wooden beams connecting the columns that are overlaid up to 5 meters high. The randomly configured layout will create extra space where benches and tables are assembled for people to naturally gather and utilize for various reasons such as reading, resting, working, and such.

Through the design of the space, the pleasant feeling people can relate to such as the excitement of encountering a new book or the refreshing feeling of reading a book in nature shall be enhanced. The lively atmosphere and scenery constantly filled with people shall draw in new customers where in return, each can find a new discovery and stimulating experience as they pleasantly await their boarding time.
