Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] Step into Shivoham Villa, nestled amidst Ahmedabad, and find yourself enveloped by a meticulously planned landscape. Lush gardens, a vibrant tapestry of exotic and native flora, blur the lines between indoors and outdoors. Traveller’s Palms, Areca Palms, and Foxtail Palms sway gently, their fronds rustling in the breeze. Smaller palms like Raphis and Kentia add delicate touches, while bursts of color from Red Cerbera Odollam Rubra and Red Champa create focal points throughout. Native Indian trees like Keigilia Africana, Pangaro, and Jarul add a dynamic element, their hues reflecting the changing seasons. Native shrubs further enhance the experience with their fragrant blooms, attracting a symphony of butterflies and bees.

This commitment to organic methods, using cow dung manure and Jivamrut from the client’s Gaushala, nourishes the ecosystem. The resulting haven attracts a resident flock of peacocks, whose presence adds another layer of life to the space.

A Home Bathed in Natural Light: Facing north, the residence itself is designed to maximize natural light and ventilation. All spaces revolve around a central courtyard with a skylight, the heart of the home. A wooden screen separates the formal living area from the family space, creating privacy while maintaining a connection. The formal drawing room boasts expansive glass walls, offering breathtaking views of the flourishing garden. The puja room, positioned for serenity, opens onto the courtyard, which also features a charming wooden jhula (swing).

Natural Materials Create Warmth and Character: The residence celebrates natural materials and light. Polished kota stone floors provide a cool foundation, while recycled Valsadi teak wood, sourced from an old house in Patan, lends warmth and character throughout. Stairs, screens, furniture, doors, and other elements all benefit from this beautiful wood. Ceramic jaali panels adorn the façade, echoing the organic forms of the landscape and filtering natural light into the interiors.

Seamless Blend to the Outdoors: The family area seamlessly extends onto the south-side garden through a veranda, perfect for al fresco dining or simply relaxing amidst the beauty of nature. Bedrooms are strategically positioned to offer tranquil garden views, while the daughter’s room on the first floor boasts low seating and windows on three sides, creating a light-filled haven.

The staircase with an overlooking passage adds a touch of drama to the first floor. The kitchen features a delightful wooden sill bay window overlooking the flourishing landscape. A guest bedroom with a window adorned with ceramic jaali completes the picture, reflecting the seamless blend of nature’s artistry and human design.
