Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] Solarium is a glass-enclosed porch or room used especially for sunbathing or therapeutic exposure to light. The brief resulting from a year round experience of the environs by the client and participation in the design process takes you closer to a space which may be enjoyed and cherished by their users for long years.

This small project on the outskirts of Ahmedabad sits right in the middle of the eighteen-hole golf course. The visitors arrive at the golf club entering into formal areas finally converging into more open spaces finally to discover the vast golf course vistas while from the course side, it works as the central relaxing lounge for the golfer after finishing the first nine holes to relax before taking on another nine. The elevated site offers panoramic vistas of the course with a nice countryside vegetation.

The design focused on creating three distinct areas and a relaxed lounge experience with varying degrees of formality where right from formal gatherings to more personal business chat can happen. The first one was more about reshaping the existing formal golf club with a serving area. The high volume area was made playful with a wireframe lighting fixture 12mt long and 3mt high. The patina surfaces were specially used to create an old charm to the place.

The formal golf club opens into a lounge with glass framed aluminum doors which open the lounge area fully on a pleasant day. The openable doors help in keeping the area low on maintenance. All the existing creepers were retained with great care while creating the space.

The lounge takes us to Patio covered partially with waterproof canvas fabric. The canvas and the wooden floor helps it merge well with the grass. The west facing space is very well used by the players in the mornings as well as in the evening with beautiful vistas of the golf greens and sunset.
