iiMunch: Interior Architecture Showcasing Ipoh’s Rich Aesthetics | Bachelors Design Project

Site Context

Located in the vibrant centre of Ipoh, Malaysia, the project site at Patisserie Boutique is a charming blend of cultural heritage and culinary artistry. With bustling streets and nearby attractions, this site presents a unique opportunity to create a welcoming space that celebrates the region’s rich flavours and traditions while enhancing the community’s culinary experience.

The vision is to enhance this vibrant setting by creating a place that not only delights the senses but also strengthens ties within the community. Inspired by the region’s history, the design will include features that capture Ipoh’s unique identity. The aim is to create an environment that promotes gathering and celebration by seamlessly blending traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics.

Design Process

This interior architecture project is designed in a number of deliberate steps, starting with a thorough site analysis and research. The student was able to identify opportunities and constraints by using the initial data derived about the location, context, and existing structures. This is followed by brainstorming sessions during which conceptual sketches were made in order to visualise concepts and ideas. With an emphasis on flow, functionality, and spatial relationships, these sketches effectively convey the vision.

Next, detailed diagrams illustrating circulation patterns, furniture layouts, and zoning were developed. This step ensures a thorough comprehension of how people will use the area. Following this, it transitions on to digital modelling, where three-dimensional representations of the conceptual design are produced using software. These models aided in the exploration of textures, materials, and lighting effects, which improved the overall ambiance and aesthetic choices.

After the design is finalised, a series of visual boards that incorporate digital renderings, diagrams, and sketches are used to illustrate the final design and concepts. This presentation not only explains the vision but also solicits jurors’ input to guarantee that the final outcome is a team effort that meets functional needs and creative goals. Sustainability and user experience have been given top priority throughout the process in an effort to create a harmonious and engaging environment.

Final Outcome

The project delivers a harmonious and inviting space that seamlessly combines form and function. Resulting from in-depth research, thoughtful design, and collaboration, the final drawings and renders vividly illustrate the vision. The drawings detail the layout, materials, and finishes, while the renders showcase light, color, and texture, creating inviting spaces that balance social interaction with intimacy.

Memo lane: iiMunch is a unique and enchanting space that combines nostalgia and whimsy. Visitors are invited to embark on their own unique journeys, with Memo Lane featuring an overhead grid of instant photos showcasing past visitors’ memories. This setting encourages exploration and reflection, making each person’s iiMunch adventure a personal and memorable experience.

Snacking center & Munch X-periment: At the heart of iiMunch lies the Snacking Center and the Munch X-periment, an interactive hub designed to spark creativity and connection. Visitors can explore the sensory journey of delicious snacks, using interactive stations to mix, match, and create unique treats. The center is adorned with playful graphics, showcasing nostalgia and joy. Each corner offers surprises, such as tasting challenges and trivia, ensuring a memorable experience that delights the senses and ignites imagination. The goal is to create a sense of experimentation and delight.

Axis Center & Sense Sphere: The local brand and instant photography have partnered to create a space that evokes nostalgia and connects to shared memories. The interactive displays showcase iconic moments captured through the brand’s lens, creating a visual timeline that resonates with visitors’ stories. This thoughtful integration not only highlights the brand’s legacy but also fosters a communal atmosphere where everyone can reminisce about their youth, reinforcing the emotional ties that bind the brand to its community.

Hampers Station: The interactive customization station invites users to create personalized hamper boxes, turning simple gifts into unique keepsakes. Visitors pull components that activate wheels and mechanisms, transforming the boxes into captivating keepsakes. The station encourages creativity and connection, as users enjoy the tactile nature of customization while crafting a unique hamper that reflects their personality and memories. This playful interaction leaves each visitor with a special memento that embodies their individual journey at iiMunch.

Munch N’ Lounge: The Munch N’ Lounge is a lively space at iiMunch where guests can relax, enjoy snacks, and participate in fun activities. It features comfortable seating, hammocks, and whimsical decor, encouraging creativity and discovery. The lounge fosters a sense of community, making it an ideal spot to unwind, snack, and share memorable moments with friends and family.
