Excerpt: ‘Jardines Residential Building’ is a Bachelors Design Project by Vivian Nicole Giraldo Pedroza and Manuel Jose Bello Navarro from the ‘Facultad de Arquitectura – UNAL Medellín’ developed as part of a larger urban revitalization strategy. It seeks to promote sustainability by connecting social and environmental elements through inclusive, efficient design. Blending with the cityscape of Medellin, the project transforms underused areas into vibrant, connected communities, serving as both a local solution and a replicable urban model.
Introduction: “Jardines” is a sustainable, multifunctional housing project situated in Medellín’s Sevilla neighborhood, developed as part of a larger urban revitalization strategy. Its core objective is to enhance the area’s sustainability by linking environmental and social elements through accessible, efficient, and community-oriented design. The project blends seamlessly with the existing urban landscape, offering a mix of residential spaces, commercial areas, and environmental education while integrating nature with public spaces.
Drawing inspiration from urban regeneration models, the project proposes a permeable structure that encourages community engagement and reactivates neglected land. It was developed using actual data from the Aburrá Valley and involved active participation from local residents, with a strong focus on social, ecological, and educational benefits. “Jardines” exemplifies how thoughtful architecture can drive transformation, connecting neighborhood life with broader metropolitan goals through sustainable, context-aware design.
