World University Rankings for 2021 released
Times Higher Education has released its latest World University Rankings for the year of 2021. It includes 1,500 Universities across 93 Countries and Regions, making it the largest to date.
House Split | MYVN Architecture
House Split, designed by MYVN Architecture, is built in two parts: retaining the site’s natural slope and following the contours. The central courtyard segregates the plan to act as two volumes. The two volumes are bridged together by a third transparent volume; a courtyard, that acts to provide enclosure and also opens up the interior into the exterior. While looking outside from this space one can perceive the moving clouds as though it is moving through the house.

Ardmore Residence | UNStudio
Ardmore Residence, designed by UNStudio, is a multi-layered architectural response to the natural landscape inherent to the ‘Garden City’ of Singapore. This landscape concept is integrated into the design utilizing four large details: the articulation of the façade, expansive views across the city, the interior ‘living landscape’ concept, and the introduction of transparency and connectivity to the ground-level gardens using a raised structure supported by an open framework.

The Hovering Gardens, designed by Niraj Doshi Design Consultancy (N.D.D.C.), merges seamlessly with the environment while making it stand out because of its architectural beauty. The brief for N.D.D.C. was a modest material template culminating into a residence that would be rich in spatial experience. Ample cross-ventilation, keeping in mind the occupants’ need for privacy, as well as flexibility in space change in accordance with family evolution was also an important consideration.

P.C. Hooftstraat 138 | UNStudio
P.C. Hooftstraat 138, designed by UNStudio, sets the stage for a unique and distinctive flagship store by reimagining the display of clothes. The facade of P.C. Hooftstraat 138 is a celebration of textiles, both in form and function; three curved glass panels flow down from the upper floors in a design that mimics billowing transparent cloth. This play with glass creates opening spaces on a pedestrian eye-level that unveil the latest designs.

Parques del Rio Medellín (Medellin river park) | Cauce Arquitectura del Paisaje + Juan David Hoyos
Parques del Rio Medellín (Medellin river park), designed by Cauce Arquitectura Del Paisaje, is born from a need for infrastructure improvement to the national highway that goes through the city, parallel to the river. The local administration saw the project as an opportunity to think beyond engineering and conduct a public competition where the main focus was to combine the highway with public space through the recovery of the city’s waterfront, an idea that had been in the making for 50 years.

Cauce Arquitectura del paisaje is linked to the study and understanding of the territory, finding its topography, landscaping, environment, visual, culture and climate to develop architectural and urban spaces that adapt to physical and ecological conditions, understanding the relationships between the biotic environment and anthropic conditions.
The House that Habitate | Natura Futura Arquitectura
The House that Habitate, designed by Natura Futura Arquitectura, treats architecture as a diversifier of urban centres: Productive Urban Housing + Education Space. A program was created that allows dialogue between living, educating, and producing. Regarding materiality, brick, wood and ceramics have traditionally been interpreted as a resource for low-income buildings. However, the project revalues these local elements using them in 95% of the construction.

House of Memory and Community Space | Taller Síntesis + Angélica Gaviria + Juan Caicedo
House of Memory & Community Space is a cultural space designed by Taller Sintesis, Angelica Gaviria, and Juan Caidedo. It serves to regain and strengthen community life while honoring the memory of the 500 victims of the violence. A diagonal wall creates the entrance to the building, an element that attacks the geometry of the rest of the building as a mark of the violence that affected Pueblo Bello in the past. This building materialized in 2014 harboring an architectural program designed directly by the community in accordance with their wishes and needs. The design will start from the recognition of the place and its people, history, needs, way of living and future projection.

Tack Barn | Faulkner Architects
Tack Barn, designed by Faulkner Architects, is a residence with strong agricultural history that are confusingly morphed between the two vocabularies. The reuse of an old barn to house people, on weekend getaways from urban life presents a conflict in identity for the built form. Uses change over time, the intention here was to maintain and use the embodied energy of the familiar barn in the neighborhood while allowing the signs of human inhabitation to be subtle, but evident.

Phutthamonthon-Y House, designed by Archimontage Design Fields Sophisticated, is a small house with a concrete rooftop garden, which makes a dialogue with the leaves surrounded and provides a view to a vegetable plot and a garden below. The concrete rooftop garden is close to the branches of the tree to create an experience of touching from one plane to another. In other words, this is how to use the space most efficiently. The wall emits light as if it is a firefly.
