Architect Arthur Casas
Architect Arthur Casas is a founding partner of Studio Arthur Casas, an office founded in 1990. Since then, he has completed projects of various types, including residential and commercial architecture, corporate and urbanism projects, public tenders, and interior and furniture design—both in Brazil and abroad, in New York, Lisbon, Paris, Tokyo, and Mexico, among others. The projects annually receive relevant international and national awards and are frequently published by the most important Brazilian and foreign media. Arthur has participated in two Architecture Biennials in São Paulo and the Bienal de Buenos Aires and was invited to speak about his productions in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the USA, and Spain. He has published four books about his work and trajectory—the most recent of which was released by the Italian publisher Rizzoli.
Practice Ideology
With projects in Tokyo, Paris, Lisbon, New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Studio Arthur Casas has a vast repertoire, recognized nationally and internationally. Since the opening of the office in 1990, Arthur Casas has collected important awards and relevant participation in architecture biennials. With a team of more than 50 architects, designers and urban planners, Studio Arthur Casas has delivered around 500 projects in the last five years alone, including houses, hotels, buildings, offices, stores and restaurants.
In addition to the variety of typologies, Arthur Casas designs all scales of a project, from architecture to furniture, including finishes and coverings. “People’s perception of environments happens in a total way, not just with the eyes, but with all the senses”, explains the architect, who sees architecture and design as determining factors for the experience that users will have in the spaces.
For him, architecture should not follow trends or seek a dramatic and spectacular feature. “My intention is to create living, empathetic, flexible environments, full of different possibilities for interaction and that can transform the lives of those who occupy them”, he says.
Process by Arthur Casas: “My approach to projects begins with a focus on human needs, social interactions, and creating a harmonious relationship with the environment. It’s crucial for me to be able to design both the core and the shell. I have learned to enjoy drawing both the building and the chair, I don’t know how to work any other way.
I consider a project successful when there’s a recognized harmony among the people using the space. From furniture and decor to the architecture, every aspect is designed to offer immersive and synesthetic experiences. We aim to engage the senses fully, with textures to touch, new perspectives to see, and paths to navigate. Aromas, textures, colors, sounds, natural light, and greenery—all contribute to designing spaces that are not only comfortable but also stimulate the senses, evoke pleasant memories, and spark imagination.
Each project is driven by a quest for essential elements, from raw materials to intricate details, showcasing our commitment to excellence at every scale. Our creative process, undertaken with our team, starts with the understanding that in architecture, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
