Ar. G.S. Mahaboob Basha
Ar. G.S. Mahaboob Basha is the Principal Architect and Co- Founder at Taliesyn – Design & Architecture, Bangalore. With over 10 years of hands-on experience to his credit, Mahaboob Basha embarked on the journey of co-founding and establishing Taliesyn in 2010. At Taliesyn, Basha’s expertise and knowledge have been instrumental in curating the detailed process of approach to any space, which has come to become a leitmotif of the studio’s design identity, winning them prestigious accolades nationally and internationally. The body of work produced at Taliesyn is emblematic of the rooted yet experiential ethos the firm conjures to life via its meaningful and appropriate design solutions. Basha’s keen eye for detail, nuances of effective design, and a layered understanding of building materials have led to the formation of the firm’s outlook towards architectural and spatial constructs.
Post the completion of his B.Arch Degree from B.V.B College – Hubli, Karnataka, Mahaboob Basha went on to garner over a decade of experience at prestigious design consortiums such as Vinnu Ponnappa Architects, Bangalore. In the course of his professional practice, Basha dabbled in a plethora of typologies that traversed diverse verticals like hospitality, institutional, commercial, and residential design. Each project, regardless of its genre and scale, is a physical manifestation of the studio’s principles and ideologies, which endorse designing in the light of the environmental and vernacular context of the space. With projects under Taliesyn’s banner dotting the Southern Indian landscape, Basha has proactively invested efforts in researching ingenious materials and evolving technologies with a focus on sustainability.
Spearheading Taliesyn, backed by his practical knowledge in the realm of architecture, Ar. Mahaboob Basha continues to further nurture his penchant for novel construction techniques, sensorial design, and interventions that add value to an end-user’s life.
Ar. Shalini Chandrashekar
Ar. Shalini Chandrashekar is the Co-Founder and Principal Architect at Taliesyn – Design & Architecture. She acquired her specialised degree in Spatial Design from Chelsea College, University of Arts London and jointly heads Taliesyn, Bangalore. With a diverse portfolio of spatial design projects conceptualised and executed under her leadership, Shalini has been a pivotal directive force behind the realisation of projects across scales and programmes at Taliesyn, imbuing each project with her inherent sense of detail and unconventional material articulation. She is committed to exemplary planning, design and execution of spaces and concepts across genres of residential, hospitality, cultural and institutional design; bestowing Taliesyn with acclaimed recognition both nationally and overseas.
Taliesyn’s design identity is representative of the rooted and sensorial ethos the firm curates while propelling appropriate design solutions to the forefront. Shalini’s inclination towards understanding the contextual and vernacular grammar of a space has catapulted the process of her founding a dedicated atelier under the overarching umbrella of Taliesyn. Her design practice is ameliorated by her active efforts directed towards researching local crafts and indigenous techniques of design; a process that entails working closely with artisans and craftsmen, bringing their artisanal creations to the limelight while shaping it to complement the demeanour of the space. Shalini assumed the role of a co-founder at Taliesyn in the year 2010. Prior to her coming on board as an Associate Designer at Taliesyn, Shalini honed her design skills through professional collaborations with esteemed studios such as Vinnu Ponnappa Architects and D+A Architects, Bangalore.
Shalini believes that designed spaces that are weaved together at Taliesyn are a reflection of the design principles and experiences that the firm finds bearings in. Apart from the practice of architectural design, Shalini has also collaborated with various other design virtuosos in the field of Product and Furniture Design.
Practice Ideology
Taliesyn strives to conceptualize architectural solutions that inherently fulfil the sole intention of creating meaningful spatial interventions. Co-founded in the year 2010 by Shalini Chandrashekar & Ar G S Mahaboob Basha, the firm has projects dotting the Southern-Indian frontier, ranging a diverse portfolio of Residential, Hospitality, Recreational, Institutional & Cultural genres.
The practice’s design philosophy involves decoding an architecture deeply rooted in the landscape & responding to the vernacular paradigm of site & materiality. Exploration of materials based on their proximity to the site, properties, appearances & the effect they introduce into space is paramount. Taliesyn’s body of work is strung together by a common thread of contextual sensitivity & architectural experiences that holistically engage the senses.
The studio’s creations are an amalgamation of Basha’s poetic vision and an approach based on the gravitas of design, having won accolades both nationally and internationally. Taliesyn has been featured on honorable design platforms like Wallpaper, ArchDaily, Architectural Digest India, India Today Home, Vogue, Casa Vogue Brasil, Dezeen, AD Russia, Middle East Architect, and Elle Decor Italia for its internationally acclaimed project Ksaraah. Recently, the studio also received an honorable mention by the prestigious Plan Awards, Italy.
