Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] Overlooking a river and flanked by steep, green slopes on three edges, the site is blessed with everything one could hope for_view, privacy, peace and quiet. The river in itself is a dynamic entity that offers contrasting backdrops between seasons. In such an ideal setting, the best thing is to take a step back and stick to the very basics. This was the guiding principle in the making of this residence.

The house is designed for three, who in turn is part of a larger clan surrounding them. Get-togethers, celebrations and festivities are a given, at any point. As such, a large verandah to accommodate large informal gatherings was proposed. This verandah with its uninterrupted views of the river connects to the inside living spaces seamlessly. They embraced the idea wholeheartedly.

The decision to minimise wastage, both in terms of resources and money guided the process from the very first go. Local labour and locally sourced materials helped us hold a tight leash on the budget.

The 2400 sq ft residence was completed in a budget of 55 lakh, including site development, furniture and interior finishes.
