A remarkable photographer, no doubt.
Architecture, through such brilliant photography, doubles its life. Maybe it triples it, or even quadruples it, etc…
Maybe in the end photography prolongs life the way real buildings can’t.
John Hejduk was rather bitter about the two-dimensionality of photography that outlasts the three-dimentionality of the “real thing.”
But is the “real thing” as real as we like to think ?
Was Jean-Luc Godard wrong when he thought in his movie Notre Musique that
fiction was more real than the real, that Hamlet’s castel (imaginary) was much more real than the Elsinore castel (that is, the same castle, but without Hamlet) ?
The fictitious Hamlet made the real more potent, although a “mere” creation of Shakespeare’s mind, thus imaginary.
We invite you, by the way of Balthazar Korab’s centennial, to explore the relationship between architecture and photography.
What does photography bring to architecture ?
And are two dimensions poorer than three, or four, or…?
Why did Palladio use the two dimensional Euclidian diagram, avoiding 3D representations (although perspective was long before invented) ?
We find the relationship between the two dimensionality of photography and the three dimensionality of architecture fascinating.
And again, we invite you, upon contemplating the works of Balthazar Korab, to pay homage to him as creatively as possible by addressing the fruitful relationship between architecture and photography.
