Yuri Vasconcelos Silva
An architect who graduated in 2002 and obtained a Master’s degree in Sustainability in the Built Environment in 2017, both from Federal University of Paraná. He is a partner at YVA Arquitetura, whose practice is guided by the concept of genuine, contemporary Brazilian architecture. He is inspired by minimalism and formal clarity. His work connects architecture with civic and scientific narratives, notably through the retrofit project for the Museum of Democracy, housed in the historic Post Office building in Curitiba, and by securing third place nationally in the Fundepar competition for a new Planetarium, as well as being shortlisted for the ArchDaily Lusophone Project of the Year 2024 award, among other accolades in national architecture competitions. His projects have been featured in leading specialist websites and magazines worldwide.
Practice Ideology
The pursuit of simplicity in every aspect of the project is the guiding principle of our work. By eliminating the superfluous, the process focuses on seeking out the essence to enhance the enjoyment of the spaces, whilst striking a balance between technique and form.
The aim is to provide thought-provoking spaces that can be freely occupied by people and other beings. This objective involves constant research into materials, technologies and design methods, as well as discussions amongst all those involved.
In seeking the heart of each project, we strive to understand the site, its internal relationships and its connection to the neighbourhood, in order to create an intervention that is well contextualised not only to the inherent needs of its use, but above all in harmony with the people and the environment in which the project is situated.
